“Modern Quilters on Whidbey Island” Day Retreat

What’s a day retreat?
A “day retreat” means a communal space to sew with fellow quilters where you can set up your sewing station and leave it up all weekend. The spacious and air-conditioned retreat space has lots of natural light, will feature 6 queen-size design walls, plus space for multiple ironing stations & cutting stations. With 2 quilters at each 8-foot table, you will have room to spread out. The attached kitchen offers extra socializing space.
Seattle attendees can drive up to Mukilteo, take the Mukilteo-Clinton ferry across (20 min travel time, usually a ferry every 30 min), and the hall is less than a minute away once you land in Clinton on Whidbey Island.
Registration costs
3-day retreat cost: $35
Single day: $15
The space supports 26 quilters per day.
Registration covers your spot at the day retreat. Please arrange your own meals and overnighting. The Clinton Community Hall has a full kitchen and there are many nearby restaurants. Registration opens on June 1st, and payment is due within 30 days (to give you time to figure out accommodation before paying for the day retreat). When you register, you can choose "invoice me" instead of paying right then, and you'll have a grace period to complete payment.
What is the space like?
Obviously this is not set up yet, so use your imagination! We’ll have tables set up on each side, with an aisle of cutting stations down the middle. The wall of windows gives great natural light. Each 8-foot table will be next to an outlet. The brick wall alcoves will have queen size design walls. Limiting the retreat size to 26 quilters a day gives all ample space. This room also has bathrooms, and adjoins the kitchen.
The attached kitchen has lots of room for reheating, takeout, and socializing.

This cute little hall is all on one level, and there are rolling carts to help tote in machines from the parking lot.
Why on Whidbey Island?
The Clinton Community Hall is such a welcoming space, we thought we’d test out this as a gathering space for the guild. So the Seattle MQG is trying out this location for the first time in 2025 to gauge interest from the guild in having an island getaway retreat. With a guild of our size, we figure more options to meet up with your quilter buddies is a good thing.
Note that the guild is still offering another day retreat in October (at Quilting Mayhem in Snohomish, no ferry necessary) so this offering is additive, it does not replace other options.
How much is the ferry?
The Mukilteo-Clinton ferry costs roundtrip for one driver in one car somewhere between $18.70 - $27.80 depending on length of car and senior discount or not. See ferry fares. You can buy a round-trip fare in Mukilteo, and then just show your ticket on the way back.
