️ Topic: Quilt As You Grow
In a talk she calls “Quilt as You Grow”, Émilie will share what inspires her and walk us through her design process, in the hope of sparking our journey into quilt improvisation.
I cut fabric and sew it back together, an improvisational, self‑taught practice that began in 2013 during a year of upheaval. Rooted in quilting’s origins and shaped by environmental values, I work entirely with upcycled materials, making new from the old. Quilting is my way of exploring connection—heritage, the present moment, and the intangible—while translating ideas of time, the universe, and the unseen into abstract, tactile form. Color and shape are my poetry, improvisation is my joy, and play keeps the work light. By day I’m a palliative care physician, a perspective that naturally threads life and death through my quilts.
