Year of Doubles BOM: May 2022

by Emily Keller from the Block of the Month committee

Basket block

May is the month for flowers, and the basket quilt block is the perfect way to continue this tradition. Using this tutorial from Adventures of a DIY Mom, you can make a 3-, 6-, 9- and 12-inch block.

I’ll be making the 12 inch block for our BOM. To get my toes wet I started playing with some floral fabrics to create a pillow for my son’s teacher. She loves orange and yellow and it turned out so bright and happy.

Now that you’ve seen the traditional block, you can start playing with your fabric to create your second, re-interpreted block.

Basket Block inspiration ideas!

The basket block has dozens of variations so take a look at the Seattle MQG's "Year of Doubles BOM" Pinterest board to see more!

A few blocks that I found particularly fun were:

      Join the BOM Sew-in:

      • There is a sew-in specifically for BOM participants on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, from 7-9pm.
      • If you're not already registered, you can find the BOM Sew-in on the Calendar of Everything, and register to attend!
      • May's BOM Sew-In is May 18th, and you can register here
